St John's Mead School Governors

The governing body provides strategic management to the school through challenge and support, ensuring the school is accountable for its actions. It is made up of parents, school staff and other people from the local community. 

Specific responsibilities include:

• Working together with the head teacher to set the future direction for the school and decide how the school's budget should be spent.
  
• Making decisions collectively on matters such as performance targets, school policies and the School's Improvement Plan.
  
• Reviewing progress against the School Improvement Plan and the school's budget and objectives and monitoring the impact that the school's policies have on pupil outcomes.
  
• Reporting to parents on the school's achievements and responding to inspection recommendations.

School governors lead schools, they don't manage them. The day to day management of the school is the responsibility of the head teacher.
