St John's Mead School Governors

The governing body provides strategic management to the school through challenge and support, ensuring the school is accountable for its actions. It is made up of parents, school staff and other people from the local community working in partnership with the school to ensure that the school achieves it aims and is supported correctly to do this.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Working together with the head teacher to set the future direction for the school and decide how the school's budget should be spent.
  • Making decisions collectively on matters such as performance targets, school policies and the School's Improvement Plan.
  • Reviewing progress against the School Improvement Plan and the school's budget and objectives.  Monitoring the impact that the school's policies have on pupil outcomes.
  • Acting as a link between parents and the school and reporting to parents on the school's achievements.
  • Responding to inspection recommendations.

School governors lead schools, they don't manage them. The day to day management of the school is the responsibility of the head teacher.

The chair or clerk to the governors can be contacted through the school office.
