South Glos Council - Appeal for information about man approaching schoolchildren in South Gloucestershire

We have been advised by Avon and Somerset Police to ask parents and children to be aware of a number of incidents in South Gloucestershire where a man in a car has approached schoolchildren and offered them a lift.

The police are appealing for information about three incidents, on Wednesday December 10 at Redwick Road in Pilning at 7.30am, in Greenways Road in Yate at 12.45pm and in Thornbury Road, Thornbury at 4.15pm. In each case a man in a small blue hatchback stopped and asked the children if he could give them a lift.

It is important to stress that none of the children interacted with the suspect and the driver left the scene without committing a crime. The police believe the three reports may possibly be linked, but at this stage do not think they are connected with similar reports in North Bristol.

They are taking the reports seriously and have increased police patrols in those areas around school start and end times, and have been liaising with schools and other partner agencies.

We and the police are asking parents and children to be aware, never to accept lifts with strangers, and to tell an adult or call police immediately should they be approached.

We would urge anyone with information on these incidents to contact police immediately on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.

14/10/2011general Working Party on Saturday

Re:  Working Party this Saturday 15th October.

Thank you for all your offers of help; we are going to get so much done!  Please come prepared to do painting, gardening or DIY depending on your interests.  It would also be good if you could bring your painting tools if you have any to hand eg brushes, sanders, dust sheets, and/or gardening equipment.

In addition to the painting and gardening we also have some more DIY jobs to do such as repairing the nursery shed (it has got gaps that need filling and securing) and widening the playground entrance (a few flag stones would be good too).  We could also do with a pick axe, gravel etc for those people who fancy working with Steve Neale on the latter project!

Huge thanks once again for offering your time.  I am sure the day will be an enjoyable one where we will be able to see a positive impact on the learning environment for our children.

See you tomorrow sometime between 10am and 4pm.

02/12/2011general Camel Procession Today (Fri 2.12.11)

TODAY the camel procession will be starting from the Vicarage in Horseshoe lane and going down the main street from opposite the Peugeot garage and down past the shops like Penny Farthings and Hobbs and round to the church.  All afternoon today one of the crafts going on in church will be making lanterns with night lights. If children would like to come into church to make their lantern and then be ready to stand in the street holding their lit lanterns (with parents/carers of course) while the procession takes place, it would great. We're hoping for TV coverage (not guaranteed of course!). So if children are interested in that I suggest they come into church from 4pm onwards to make their lantern.

Rev'd Jane.

19/05/2014general Appeal for help from a parent regarding the flooding in Serbia and Bosnia.

As you may have heard, Serbia and Bosnia have had torrential rains where in three days they had 3 months worth of rain, causing terrible flooding - in some cases houses are 3 metres underwater.

There has been huge evacuation activity, around ~ 30 000 evacuees, with no possessions, have poured into Belgrade leisure centres & temporary shelters.

The Serbian Embassy in London has organised the  collection of the following goods:

Bedding, blankets

Clean vests/underwear/socks  – in all sizes

Nappies, children’s clothes (for comfort only smaller teddies )

Tinned food/bottled water

Milk  powder (babies and grown ups)

Plastic cutlery/glasses

Hygiene products (soaps, shampoos), small towels

If possible in boxes…please

These will be delivered at the check point at the Red Cross in Belgrade, Serbia, and then distribute to the worst affected areas.  If you are able to help please bring in the above items (if possible in boxes) for Mrs Knowles to collect on Wednesday.   The collection point in school will be by the reception entrance on Wednesday morning.

Mrs Knowles will go to London early on Thursday and take the boxes to the Embassy for custom papers and loading on to one of their vans.

The Embassy ‘s activities are shown on their website here…:
